City Jail Operations
The mission of the Detention Division shall be to operate in a constitutional manner in compliance with Mississippi Jail Standards, and to consistently deliver safe and secure housing of inmates for the benefit of the court, the citizens of Natchez, and our contract agencies, while simultaneously providing cost effective detainment and alternatives to incarceration. The Detention Facility shall provide a safe and orderly living environment for both detainees and staff, and will have written policy that governs the operation of the Detention Facility.
The Natchez City jail is a 56 bed facility setup in a bay type cell block. There are 3 blocks of 15 beds and one block of 6 beds. The jail has four isolation cells and one holding cell. The average overnight population throughout the year is around 28-30 with peaks pushing upper forties and lows in the teens.
The facility is operated by a ten person detention staff broken into three shifts throughout the day. The jail operations are overseen by the Jail Administrator
The primary objective of the Detention Facility is not to inflict punishment, but to protect persons and ensure the appearance of detainees for trial.
